Selank (TP-7) was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics as a modified analog of tuftsin, a natural peptide from immunoglobulin G. While tuftsin primarily modulates immune function, Selank extends these properties to include anxiolytic and nootropic benefits. Approved in Russia in 2009 for generalized anxiety disorder, it offers benzodiazepine-comparable anxiety reduction without amnesia, withdrawal, or dependence.

Mecanismo de acción

Selank works through two primary mechanisms: (1) Cognition enhancement via modulation of noradrenaline, serotonin, and dopamine levels; (2) Anxiolytic effects via GABAergic activity — modulating GABA-A receptors to increase inhibitory action on neuronal excitability. It also inhibits enkephalin-degrading enzymes, providing natural pain relief, and regulates BDNF expression in the hippocampus.

Principales ventajas

Anxiety Reduction Without Sedation — Comparable to benzodiazepines for GAD but without sedation, cognitive impairment, amnesia, or addiction. A 2008 clinical trial in 30 GAD patients confirmed similar anxiolytic effects plus cognitive enhancement.

Brain Protection — Supports BDNF expression in the hippocampus, showing promise in countering alcohol-related brain damage and supporting neural repair.

Pain & Inflammation Relief — Inhibits enzymes that degrade enkephalins (natural pain-relieving peptides), providing analgesic and anti-inflammatory benefits.

Modulación inmunitaria — Demonstrates antiviral properties and immune-regulating effects. Shown to reduce depression in human trials through immune modulation pathways.
