Product Overview

Oxytocin is a pleiotropic peptide hormone and neuropeptide produced in the hypothalamus and released by the posterior pituitary gland. It stimulates uterine contractions during childbirth, facilitates milk ejection during breastfeeding, and is controlled by a positive feedback mechanism. Its synthesis depends on peptidylglycine alpha-amidating monooxygenase (PAM), which requires vitamin C as a cofactor.

Mechanism of Action

Oxytocin is released into the bloodstream in response to social interaction, physical touch, sexual activity, and childbirth. It stimulates uterine smooth muscle contractions and boosts prostaglandin production. In the central nervous system, it modulates social cognition, emotional processing, and stress response through specific oxytocin receptors.
